DOS PÁTIOS HOUSE

LOCATION BUILT AREA YEAR
Sao Paulo, Brazil
757 m²
2013

Casa dos Patios was designed for a family of four (a couple and two children), in a residential neighborhood with plenty of trees, in São Paulo.

Given the shape and size of the plot – a long and narrow strip of land –, we decided to concentrate the longitudinal occupation along the right border, thus leaving the front and back sides for gardens and the main access to the interior of the house to the left, under a wooden pergola and amidst lush greenery.

In addition to the family quarters, the program requested an independent guest room, as well as a gym connected to the recreation area.

The program was distributed on three levels and an annex at the back of the plot, according to the usage: the underground level housing garage, workshop, technical areas (water tank, pool pumps, water heater, generator), in addition to the servants’ quarters and laundry room; on the ground level, reception rooms opening onto a garden; and all bedrooms and a private living room, for the family, are located on the upper level.

The house was erected with a mixed structural system, in which reinforced concrete was used for the underground and street levels, and steel on the upper level, as to provide the necessary balance to cantilever over the swimming pool terrace.

Solar heating panels were laid at the top, in addition to skylights to provide natural lighting to the upper level bathrooms and walk-in closet.

Several patios and terraces, found across all levels, dot the whole house, allowing for plentiful natural lighting and ventilation in all rooms.
