The Green Spot restaurant is located in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella – the Old Town, in an area that transitions between the entangled streets of Barri Gòtic and reticulated Barceloneta, developed in the 18th century on a stretch reclaimed from the sea.
The building where the restaurant is located occupies, without setbacks, a rectangular plot across the block, between pedestrian street Carrer de la Reina Cristina and Pas de Sota Muralla, and contains, in addition to Green Spot at street level, four floors of apartment units.
At street level, the hall to the residential section – in the central axis of the plot – advances from the pedestrian street to a small courtyard at the heart of the building, leaving the remainder of the area to commercial use: two narrow strips to the sides (the technical areas), while at the other end a larger area takes up the full width of the plot (the dining room).
In the dining room, overlooking Pas de Sota Muralla and entirely reserved to the restaurant tables and bar, the structural frame of the building stands out. A grid of solid columns and the vaulted ceiling organize the space, naturally contributing to the creation of smaller, more intimate areas.
The courtyard, clothed with exuberant vegetation and visible from any point in the restaurant, provides plentiful natural light, even to the innermost corners, and connects the dining room to the narrower strips housing the technical and supporting areas – kitchen to one side, washrooms and storage areas to the other –, which conveniently feature direct exits onto the pedestrian street.
