For many years, AABIM (the Brazilian Association of Friends of the Israel Museum) has maintained a fund to acquire works of art by Brazilian artists to donate to that museum. In 2016, the Association commissioned us with the design of a Menorah – a seven-branch candelabrum, one of the main symbols of Judaism. Resorting to certain poetic license, in the piece we designed candles with different heights and diameters are pinned to cylindrical brass bases – also with different heights and diameters -, in turn inserted into a base made of rustic wood. Diverting from the traditional design, the piece is not intended for liturgical uses. Forty pieces were produced and auctioned off to raise funds to AABIM.
